Religion in Times of Transition: The Case of the COVID-19 Pandemic in Africa

University of Bayreuth
Germany

17 to 18 December 2021

Content

For almost two years, life has been upside down or at a standstill – COVID-19 has had a major impact on the lives of people in all parts of the world. Faith and hope can help people get through this difficult time of loneliness, isolation, and fear for the future. The (non-)importance of religious faith of African people in the context of the COVID-19 crisis is what we want to focus on in this conference. Beyond that, COVID-19 has also greatly changed and limited the religious life in Africa. How exactly this looks like in individual African countries and which impact this has is also one subject of this conference.

Alumni will give short presentations of 15 minutes in the following panels:

  • The Growing Importance of Religion in Times of COVID-19
  • The Influence of COVID-19 in Everyday Religious Life
  • Spirituality, Prayer and Healing in Times of the COVID-19
